The Congress On the Future of Engineering Software Convenes to Map Out Future Software Development

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., April 27,2001 -- Cyon Research, joined by event sponsors Microsoft and Compaq, welcomed over one hundred fifty invited engineering software executives, corporate leaders, visionaries and press to The Congress On the Future of Engineering Software. Technology vendors that help drive innovations in industries such as automotive, aerospace, high technology, engineering and architecture have come together for this two day event to present their development visions, map out future product releases and plan collaboration between software applications. Together, the vendors at this event represent over $4.0B in annual software sales to the engineering community.

Highlights of the technology being showcased by COFES participants are as follows:

Microsoft will be showcasing their developments in enhanced collaboration and integration between product design organizations and the extended enterprise. Highlighted at the show is Vision 2002, the first Microsoft developed version of the drawing and diagramming software application.

Compaq will introduce new wireless and mobility solutions designed exclusively for engineers. For many software developers, this will be their first look at these groundbreaking devices that are anticipated to redirect new application development in future years.

Bentley Systems will be presenting new concepts for integrating design and asset management systems that they believe will lead to reduced costs of operations for design firms and property owners.

COFES participants are responsible for creating and deploying strategic engineering applications such as design (architectural, mechanical, engineering), project extranets, e-commerce, collaboration, project management, facilities management, knowledge management, technical document management and others. Some of the expected topics of discussion include collaboration, application development on mobile platforms, new design tools and their potential impact, online procurement, application and data
integration, and knowledge management.
