COFES 2012, The Congress on the Future of Engineering Software, Begins
Visionaries of the design and engineering software industry gather at twelfth annual event.
Scottsdale, AZ April 12, 2012 -- Cyon Research Corporation today welcomes attendees to the opening of the thirteenth annual Congress On the Future of Engineering Software (COFES.)
COFES brings together executives and engineers to discuss the most important issues facing both users and vendors of design and engineering technologies. It provides a relaxed and informal atmosphere designed to foster thoughtful conversation.
COFES includes scheduled presentations, analyst briefings, and roundtable discussions, where guest experts and attendees discuss the state of engineering software, and the trends and technologies that will underly innovation in the future.
“For the people who create the physical products we all count on, engineering and design software is key to innovation,” explains Cyon Research President and CEO Brad Holtz. “At COFES, leading thinkers from all corners of the industry gather to think seriously about the future of that software.”
This year, the COFES opening keynote speaker is Dr. Alan Kay, one of the founding fathers of modern computing.
Over time, increasingly complex needs have led to the creation of increasingly complex software, built in an incremental fashion—code on top of code. This process, particularly evident in the realm of engineering software, has led to program structures that can include hundreds of millions of lines of code that is intractable to change, redesign, and understanding. At COFES, Dr. Kay will discuss his research in reinventing programming—from scratch—to overcome this problem.
Co-located with COFES 2012 is the fourth annual Design and Sustainability (DaS) Symposium, that explores the intersection of design, simulation, and sustainability for both the built and manufactured environment. The DaS Symposium showcases new ways design software can increase the visibility of sustainability issues at the design stage. Attendees are challenged to identify areas of common ground that may be best served by collaborative, rather than competitive solutions.
