BIMStorm is demonstrating the scope of what BIM is all about. We all agree BIM may not be the best name, but it is the one that is the most recognized so it should be our focal point. Everyone from KFC really being Kentucky FRIED Chicken to CSI really being Construction SPECIFICATIONS Institute not happy with the words that make up their name so why should BIM be any different. The bottom line is we are seeking interoperability from the smallest part of a building up to a world view, from inception onward throughout the lifecycle and across all the stakeholders from planning to demolition to include designers and first responders. Everyone needs facility and infrastructure information and they need to go to one place to get it. Even if it is made up of hundreds of interrelated files. If there is interoperability then we will be able to share the information and not have to re-create it. That is what the buildingSMART alliance is all about – building BIG BIM. Cyon Research can help individual organizations analyze how they fit into the industry transformation that is occurring.
